Butt weld elbow is generally fabricated from steel pipes with butt welding technique, which is a highly efficient and automatic process of jointing two pieces of metal together along a single edge in a single plane. Parameter ranges of different elbows are shown in the table:

In a pipeline system, elbow is a kind of bent piping allowing straight pipes to be joined at an angle to change the direction. Divided according to the radius, butt weld elbows are available in long-radius type and short-radius type: the radius of curvature of long-radius elbow is 1.5 times of the pipe’s outer diameter (R=1.5D); while for short-radius elbow, the values of the 2 items are equal (R=1.0D). Fittings whose radius of curvature is less than or equal to 1.5 times of pipe diameter are recognized as elbows, or they will be defined as bent pipes. An elbow can be 45, 90, or 180 degree, the 3 types of which are used most frequently. Other angles like 15, 30, and 60 degree are also available for different construction requirements.
According to the pipe materials and wall thickness, pipe elbows are manufactured with different molding techniques. Commonly used techniques for seamless elbow are hot forming, stamping, and extrusion. For welded elbows, we will firstly manufacture 2 pieces of the elbow body separately, and then weld the 2 sections together. This butt welding method is suitable for fabricating elbows with size over DN300.
To ensure the quality of our pipe fittings, all of the raw materials like the steel pipes for butt weld elbows, the steel sheets for die stamped elbows, and the steel bars for forged elbows are introduced from reliable suppliers. Quality inspection is conducted in the whole production process. Before shipping, we will have a 100% spectral detection for all of the fittings, ensuring the highest degree of quality.
In our inspection center, we have over 100 sets of inspection equipment, including desktop optical emission spectrometer from SPECTRO, chemical analysis and testing center, fully automatic carbon/sulfur analyzer, high-speed analyzer, X-ray testing chamber, ultrasonic flaw detector, magnetic particle detector, infiltration detector, ultrasonic thickness gauge, computer-controlled electronic universal testing machine, 60-ton hydraulic universal tensile testing machine, low-temperature impact testing machine, metallographic analyzer, and infrared thermometer, etc.
