Stub end is a kind of steel butt weld fitting serving as a lap joint in loose flange, which is commonly used in environment with low temperature and pressure, but strong corrosion. To be applied in highly-corrosive medium, the loose flange employs corrosion-resistant material for the stub end, which is the part that comes in direct contact with the medium. The left flange parts are made from low-grade material and are clamped firmly by the flange ring to realize a good sealing.
Many hot or cold forming techniques are applicable in producing die stamped or butt weld stub ends, like bending, extrusion, molding, and machining. The basic principle for choosing molding techniques is that it should do no harm to the fittings. Welding technique is required additionally for some large-caliber stub ends.
